Powers of Ten: A scaffold for index notation, dyscalculia
"Relevant for all - necessary for some", this scaffold resource is designed to assist individuals and groups in the following areas of maths:
- understanding “powers” - also known as index notation
- learning how to multiply powers, or indices by multiples of 10
- learning how to divide powers, or indices by multiples of 10
- understanding the role in decimals in powers of 10
The language that we use to describe mathematical can be complex. Students therefore need to be skilled in reading and interpreting mathematical language in order to identify the operations required, and solve the problem.
